1 Watt Handheld LoRa Node for Meshtastic

My vision

I looked at the landscape of handheld LoRa Nodes Radios that run Meshtastic and couldn’t find anything that ran higher than .2W and had the portability, battery life, and design I wanted, so I started to formulate a plan to create my own.

New Product

I have spent a lot of time creating what I think to be the perfect blend of radio power, battery life, portability, and price.

Coming Soon

Node V1 is still in the design stage, next will be a heavy revision stage followed by a small batch manufacturing stage, during which I will aim to get it in the hands of objective third parties who can give me honest feedback. I have already begun sourcing all of the parts needed and am painstakingly trying to keep the price as low as possible, while still making it a great product.

Goal

Goal

I looked around at all of the Meshtastic radios on the market and mostly found ones that transmit at about .2 Watts, I wanted to push the boundaries of the unlicensed power and transmit all the way up to 1 Watt, so I decided to design my own. The main goal is to make this a fully fledged product and sell it to people who are interested.

This is an excellent question, as I have started sourcing parts and am trying to keep the price as low as possible I can only give a range. That is about $150-$250 per unit.

As it stands now (4/9/2025), tariffs have increased production costs by about 11%. These costs are likely to change, I will update this section every time I do a production cost analysis, which will likely be weekly.

The range should be 15+ Miles at the full 1 Watt.

There is still a ton to do in the design and revision phase, then I will move to small batch manufacturing and testing, followed by the early manufacturing stage of about 30 units. Those 30 units should be available sometime in late 2025 or early 2026.
